As of December 31, 2013, there were 1,595 Chipotle and other concept restaurants in operation. The table below sets forth the locations (by state or country) of all restaurants in operation.

We categorize our restaurants as either end-caps (at the end of a line of retail outlets), in-lines (in a line of retail outlets), free-standing or other. Of our restaurants in operation as of December 31, 2013, we had 970 end-cap locations, 264 in-line locations, 283 free-standing units, and 78 other. The average restaurant size is about 2,580 square feet and seats about 56 people. Many of our restaurants also feature outdoor patio space.

We lease our main office and substantially all of the properties on which we operate restaurants. We own sixteen properties and operate restaurants on all of them.
