Item 6. SELECTED FINANCIAL DATA
You should read the selected financial data set forth below in conjunction with (i) "Item 7 ‑ Management's Discussion and Analysis of Financial Condition and Results of Operations," (ii) "Item 8 ‑ Financial Statements and Supplementary Data" included elsewhere in this Annual Report, (iii) the historical consolidated financial statements of Global Payments and the related notes presented in its Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended May 31, 2015, and (iv) updated portions of Global Payments’ Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended May 31, 2015 filed with the SEC in a Current Report on Form 8-K on February 5, 2016 to reflect, for all periods presented, the retrospective effects of a change in reportable segments, the adoption of accounting standards updates and a stock split effected in the form of a dividend paid on November 2, 2015. The income statement data for the years ended May 31, 2016, 2015, and 2014 and the balance sheet data as of May 31, 2016 and 2015 are derived from the audited consolidated financial statements included elsewhere in this Annual Report. The income statement data for fiscal years 2013 and 2012 and the balance sheet data as of May 31, 2014 and 2013 were derived from consolidated financial statements included in our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended May 31, 2014. The balance sheet data as of May 31, 2012 was derived from audited consolidated financial statements included in our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended May 31, 2013. The financial data reflect the retrospective effects of a stock split and the adoption of accounting standard updates as discussed in "Note 1 - Basis of Presentation and Summary of Significant Accounting Policies" of the notes to the accompanying consolidated financial statements.

The financial data in the table above as of and for the year ended May 31, 2016 reflect the effects of our merger with Heartland and the issuance of new long-term debt, both of which were completed on April 22, 2016. See "Note 2 - Acquisitions" in the notes to the accompanying consolidated financial statements for further discussion of our merger with Heartland.
Operating income, net income, net income attributable to Global Payments and basic and diluted earnings per share in the table above include a credit of $7.0 million (pre-tax) during the year ended May 31, 2014 and charges of $36.8 million (pre-tax) and $84.4 million (pre-tax) for the years ended May 31, 2013 and 2012, respectively, related to a processing system intrusion that occurred in the year ended May 31, 2012.
