Sustainability Program Update
We have made significant progress on several fronts with respect to our sustainability program, including the hiring of a Senior Director, Environmental, Social and Governance.
Environmental Stewardship
Our Company is committed to formalizing its external reporting in alignment with a number of well-recognized disclosure standards. We are currently working to scope this commitment appropriately, so that the disclosure methodology we develop is appropriate and can be reported alongside other well-recognized global disclosure standards. We intend to publish the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (“TCFD”) report by the first quarter of 2023.
Inclusion and Diversity
Our Company’s inclusion and diversity (“I&D”) mission is to build an inclusive, equitable, and diverse environment where every individual can belong and flourish – in our company and the communities we serve. We believe that everyone should feel included and fairly treated, and we embrace the unique qualities that make people who they are. We have a four-part strategy, and we made progress in each of these areas in 2022 under the leadership of our Vice President of Global I&D and our Company’s I&D Council.
Diverse workforce*:* Increase leader and employee representation to fuel innovation and better mirror the patients we serve. To source more diverse candidates and increase our rigor in fair talent selection, we created a dedicated Diversity Talent Attraction team within Talent Acquisition, implemented new sourcing partnerships, and participated in career fair events for women, people of color, veterans, and people with disabilities. We also implemented required training for our recruiters, hiring managers, and interview teams focused on fair and inclusive hiring practices.
Inclusive experience*:* Make employees from all backgrounds feel welcome, supported, and valued. We continued to build momentum in our employee resource groups (“ERGs”), including the addition of a seventh ERG for the Hispanic/Latinx community and the introduction of a new “cultural moments” approach to communication. We rolled out Inclusive Leadership training to all senior leaders at the VP level and above. We participated in the Disability Equality Index and were named a “Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion.”
Fair practices*:* Openly share progress and continuously improve our people practices in areas such as representation, pay equity, and promotion practices. We completed a self-ID campaign with our U.S. employees in February and, in September, we provided an expanded view of our employee diversity data, including our U.S. EEO-1 consolidated report, on our website at https://www.intuitive.com/en-us/about-us/company/inclusion-diversity/fair-practices.
Industry engagement*:* Engage with the healthcare community, suppliers, partners, and shareholders to drive positive change. We launched a new section of our website focused on I&D, and we continued to grow our customer Women in da Vinci Surgery community. We also engaged with third parties to bring specialized resources to better support our employees, including Disability:IN, Catalyst, and a gender identity consultant.
Cybersecurity
In 2022, our cybersecurity systems and processes achieved International Standards Organization (ISO) 27001 certification and continued to adhere to National Institute of Science and Technology guidelines. In addition, we work with third-party security rating organizations and government agencies to evaluate information security practices. All employees receive annual training on our information security policy in addition to ongoing information security training across a variety of topics and trends. Our senior leaders hold quarterly reviews of our information and product security. Our Board of Directors reviews information and product security matters several times a year.
